When I meet with customers, I’m almost invariably asked, “Will we be able to maintain the website ourselves?” And I always reply with, “Of course you can! WordPress makes it incredibly easy to maintain and grow your website. But let’s talk about time versus money and what your time is worth.”
I’m sure the majority of us can change the oil in our vehicles. But, it takes a bit of time and planning, doesn’t it? We have to go to the store, purchase the oil and filter, we have to make sure we have our tools to hand, we have to deal with the waste oil, the mess, etc., So in order to do it ourselves, we trade the money saved versus the time it takes us to do all of that. The same thing can be said for website maintenance. If you want to handle your own website maintenance ask yourself this, will you make more money if you spend the same amount of time on other tasks within your business? I have a small note that sits in front of me that says “Work On What Matters.” Let’s face it, it’s easy to make yourself busy, it is another thing to use your time to be more effective and profitable.
Unless our customers are working on their website daily or at least a few times a week, I encourage them to simply send their maintenance updates and requests to us. It is, after all, what we do and we get it done quickly, efficiently and professionally. And then they don’t have to worry about finding the time, the tools or cleaning the oil off their hands!
Recently we developed a variety of website maintenance plans that allow our customers to focus their energy on what’s important, and not worry about the how’s and where’s involved in placing it within their website. So the next time you want to change your websites oil, you might want to consider enrolling in one of our website maintenance plans.
