Milestones

As Cathy and I dive into our 29th year of serving Alaskans, I find myself looking back on some milestones as well as looking forward to what the future might bring.

LOOKING BACK

• CLOSING IN ON 30 YEARS IN BUSINESS
It is hard to believe we are closing in on 30 years! Honestly, it seems like just a decade ago that we came up the Alaska highway in 1996 towing a travel trailer and two Springer Spaniels. We could never have imagined what the future would hold.

• JENI WITH US FOR 15 YEARS
When we had triplets 15 years ago we somehow managed to convince Jeni, who was Cathy’s college roommate (her husband and I best buds), to join the Sundog team. It is now fifteen years later, and not only are we blessed with Jeni, but her daughter Lily has been with us a couple of years now as well. More About Jeni

• BUILDING AN AMAZING TEAM
I cannot say enough about our small but mighty team. There are only eight of us, but you would be hard-pressed to find another web team with as much experience, professionalism, and talent. I am truly blessed to work alongside of each of them. The Sundog Team

• OUR YOUNGEST SUNDOG GETS MARRIED!
Jacob, our youngest team member who has been with us since he was 16, just got married! Jacob was attending ANSEP and inspired us to get our triplets attending as well. They are almost sophomores in college at just 15 years old. 

• MARRIED 36 YEARS
Although Cathy’s office has to be separate from mine (because she is a ‘nester’ and I am a ‘neatnik’ ), we have somehow managed to stick together and share this adventure. If you want to know the secret, well I would say the biggest is that we are Christians and try to remember to forgive like we have been forgiven.

• OVER 600 WEBSITES BUILT
This is a conservative number, really, but it does blow my mind that we have been serving so many Alaskans and beyond since 1996.

LOOKING FORWARD

• LEGACY BUILDING
We are actively building a team with the future of Sundog in mind. We’re training future leadership and sharpening talent so Sundog Media will continue to be a top choice for Alaska web design. Our goal is to make Sundog a multi-generational company, committed to serving Alaska with innovative design and top-level customer service.

• SNOWBIRDING
After 30 Alaskan winters, Cathy and I are working toward building a Florida winter retreat. We have purchased 5 acres in horse country and, if all goes as planned, we are hoping to build a small home where we will spend winters soaking in more vitamin D and discovering all the good fishing holes.

• RETIREMENT
We are just starting to talk more about this idea. However, we still really love what we do, and (Lord willing) we plan to invest in another 5-7 years of full-time work before we look to transition leadership over to the younger folks – unless of course AI robots replace us first.
