What is Your Sundog Story?
Part of the Sundog team since March, 2008 – In 2008, I was about to have my second child and was frustrated with juggling my family and my career. I found a job advertised to work from home as a website developer, and I just knew that was my answer. Ever since, I have been able to be home for my family and still advance my career. It’s a win, win.
What is Your Alaska Story?
I was actually born and raised here, which is pretty rare. Although I wanted to leave after high school, I have come to appreciate the rare beauty, wild nature and rugged independence of this state.
What Do You Do For Fun?
I like to be active and outside, which is good for someone with a desk job. Hiking, running, lifting weights, yoga and fishing fill my time. I also enjoy good friends, good books, good coffee and good wine.
How Did You Get Into This Gig?
I was working in real estate as an assistant in my early twenties and started playing around with the computers in the office, both fixing them and using them to create graphics for advertising. I decided I wanted to go into graphic design, but unfortunately my university did not have a good program. It did have an excellent business program in Management Information Systems. I enrolled despite the fact that I was terrified of coding. My first day of programming class was intimidating and not helped by the fact that my instructor had a very strong accent that was difficult to understand. By the end of that class, I had fallen in love with code and I’ve enjoyed the challenge of programming ever since.
Where Do You Get Your Inspiration?
In work, there is no better feeling then when I am able to find an elegant solution to a challenging problem. In life, I am inspired by the love of Christ through which I am able to love others.
