What is Your Sundog Story?
Part of the Sundog team since June, 2016 – My Sundog story really started before I started with Sundog. I worked with Joe and Kym on some projects as a client. Over the years I got to know and work with several members of the Sundog team and knew that some day I wanted to be a part of it. When the opportunity finally presented it’s self, I was excited to begin the new chapter!
What is Your Alaska Story?
I remember sitting on my living room couch in Oregon and my wife saying to me, “We should move to Alaska. It would be a fun adventure!” About six months pass and she made several similar comments which I was quick to dismiss. We didn’t know anybody or anything about Alaska and I had no interest in moving. Then in the fall of 2010, I was attending a church conference where some leaders were speaking about the work they were doing in Alaska. At the end of the message one of the leaders said, “If you think for a second God is calling you to Alaska, I dare you come!” And then I knew. I knew that Alaska was in my future. It took a few years, but by 2013 we sold most of our belongings, packed the rest in a U-Haul and moved to Anchorage. It only took a few days for me to realize that Alaska is my forever state.
What Do You Do For Fun?
I enjoy playing outside just as much as I do inside. Any given day of the week you might find me riding a bike, snowshoeing, playing video games with friends around the country, or rocking out on my guitar. I currently serve as a Worship Pastor at a local church and often find myself learning new songs while I’m doing any number of my other hobbies.
How Did You Get Into This Gig?
I recall as a high-schooler I once turned in a final biology report in the form of a website. Most students did the expected paper, but that just seemed so boring to me. I bought a domain, fired up a website builder, and went to town. As the years progressed, I found myself creating websites using the latest trends in technology. As I try to peer into the next 20 years of the internet, I only see a bright and shining future filled with awe and wonder.
Where Do You Get Your Inspiration?
As a pastor, I find myself constantly amazed at what God is doing in and around me. I manage to always have people in my life that I can learn from. I’m willing to bet that most of those people don’t even know that I’m watching them. I’ve been lucky enough to have mentors that have helped me be a better designer, developer, musician, father, and husband. I look at the world and try to find the people and things that can inspire me and others to make a difference.
