The Valdez Fish Derbies are held for Halibut and Silver Salmon featuring a $15,000 cash Grand Prize for the largest, $5,000 cash for 2nd place and $2,000 for 3rd place in both derbies. There is also a Women’s Silver Derby that has been held since 2004, and a Kid’s Pink Salmon Derby. Started in 1952 with the Silver Salmon Derby, the Fish Derbies now give away thousands of dollars in prizes and the community and business support is evident in the sponsor listings.
